Granada is one of the eastern provinces of Andalucía. It is a land of contrast, which offer the History, the weather and the modern infrastructures of the SE coast of Andalucia. This region was the last to be left by the Muslim rulers in Spain only five hundred years ago, so it preserves much of their legacy and its moorish enchantment.

History

Motril
Motril and its Costa tropical have also the heritage of Phoenicians, Romans and Arab cultures. The various archaeological remains and meny architectural records that have been left behind, bear witness to the great splendour that our irrigated lands, sugar refineries, fish and maritime industry were granted in the past. With the arrival of Christianity and the industrial advances of the following centuries have imbued our towns with invaluable examples of religious memorials and buildings.

Granada
Granada is 166 Km from Almería. That's 1h 30 min by motorway. The visitors feel the enchantment of Granada as the last great stronghold of the Muslim rulers, and communal home of Muslims, Jews and Christians. All left the legacy of their art that we can enjoy today at la Alhambra Palace, Albaicín (famous quarter of Islamic origin) and many streets of the historical center of Granada.

Depending on each city, you may find tipical dishes as:

In Granada, Sacromonte Omelette, the fava beans nad ham and you can also find a strong bakery tradition from the arabs. In Granada province, papas a lo pobre (poor man’s potatoes), Trevélez Serrano (mountain cured) ham, garlic rabbit and some bakery tradition as soplillos. But at the coast you can also find pescaitos fritos, moraga (varied fish prepared and eaten on the very beach), the golden costa wine and the sugar cane rum.


Climate

Motril and Granada enjoy good and mild weather throughout the year and the sun shines on 322 days a year and frost is never seen in this coastal area. The average annual temperature is 22º and 3.100 hours of sunlight a year.
