A new destination for anchoring, blessed with state -of-the-art facilities for both passenger and liner allke -and what is most important- unbeatable surroundings for tourism, sports, shopping, relaxation and historical visits.

History

Algeciras takes its name from the Arabic 'Al-Yazirat-Al-Hadra', meaning the 'Green Island', although the city's origins date from the Roman Era.

In its famous Plaza Alta is where the Church of Our Lady of the Palm (1736) and the Chapel of Our Lady of Europe are to be found. In the palladian style with touches of baroque, they are both excellent examples of a possible tour of the monuments of Algeciras. Nowadays, Algeciras is the main city belonging to the Campo de Gibraltar region.

The city's development is closely united to that of its Port, and to the generation of industry, trade and services inherently related to intense passenger, vehicle, bulk and container traffic.
